Parents Iftar Dinner

FOUNDATION

In the Foundation class, we are settled in and getting more used to the routine of school. I would like to remind Foundation parents to pack fruit for fruit and snack times and to not include chocolate and chips in your child’s lunch box. I would also ask if you haven’t done so already, please send in a box or 2, of tissues that your child can keep in their locker. We are having more unnamed lost property pile up so please label your child’s uniform, lunch box and drink bottle clearly, especially as school swimming is coming up. I can also see that many Foundation students have been doing plenty of reading at home and using Mathletics and Reading Eggs. Make sure when you read at home, to fill in the reading log with the title of the book and how your child read.

What we are learning:

English: We have been working in our reading groups doing small group activities based around the alphabet and sight words and many students have done 25 nights reading or higher. We have started writing simple sentences that use our sight words and illustrating them and our colouring is getting neater. By the end of term, we will have done the letters a, c, d, g, q, o, e, s, and z. Their letter formation is improving and they enjoy singing the Alphabet Jam Song. Most are better able to write their names and are focusing on using the correct lowercase letters.

Maths: We have learnt how to count and write the numbers up to 10. We have worked on patterns and shapes. We are learning the names of 2D shapes and about their sides and corners. We have been creating patterns in drawings, using shapes and colours, and also in using physical objects like blocks and counters, to make and continue simple patterns.

Integrated Studies: As a class, we discussed celebrations that our families have and also where our families come from. In Art, we used the shapes and patterns we learnt about in Maths, to make shape monsters and a patterned Elmer Elephant. In P.E., we are continuing to learn new games which involve listening and a lot of running.
